Successful Teams
Many of the world’s greatest companies work on the premise of ‘First WHO...and then the WHAT’. The Executives and Senior Managers of these companies seek to employ the best people in the full knowledge that whatever the direction of the corporate business it is the people who will get them to the destination.
People in a company can be likened to a team sport such as football, rugby or hockey; Only if all share the same desires and passions for success will the team succeed in overcoming all thrown before it.
Goals, Objectives and Outcomes
So what type of disciplines does a truly successful company have;
- A game plan and a clear vision of its goals, objectives and outcomes
- A sense of focus, purpose and a desire to cooperate
- Clarity of the role of them as individuals within the team
- Mastery of their role and an understanding of the roles of others
Coping under pressure
Even with all of the best intentions, without constant coaching, teams can struggle to embrace all of these virtues; this is especially so during times of stress such as change.
The reason for this is summarised by an Army adage that ‘to do something well you have to practice 300 times, to do something well under pressure you have to practise 3,000 times’.
Coaching
It's no good having the best individual players in a particular position if they do not know how or do not wish to work with fellow team members. It's for this reason that coaches & specialist coaches are used to bring the team to the next level.
